Normally, in a section heading like this one, you would expect to find helpful sources and references. I have few for you right now. As you have read, it is pointless to approach government with concerns or grievances. There are individuals and non-governmental groups with an interest in how our judiciary functions, but there too I found a lack of genuine concern, but not in all cases. If not silence or a bland response, if lucky, you may get something more promising. There are a few voices unafraid and not yet silenced that continue to expose Colorado’s not-so-secret judicial system problems.
Examples:
Colorado Judicial Institute – they advertise as “An independent, non-partisan, nonprofit charity with a mission to promote excellence, equity, impartiality and public trust in Colorado’s courts through outreach, education, and engagement.” Lofty goals, for sure. In response to my inquiry, they told me that their mission as to improve public trust in the judiciary. So how do you do that by ignoring an example of gross misfire on so many levels? Apparently by doing exactly that. They ran fast and far with a “good luck.”
Coloradojudges.org – Their website states they are “…a gathering point for information and materials from past judicial scandals – and suggestions for how to mitigate and prevent them in the future.”
They cite Colorado media outlets that supposedly lead the charge exposing judicial system problems (the same ones and individuals I contact who fizzled or passed). On the surface, this organization seems like the exact sort of firebrand we need but when contacted, I heard absolutely zero…for eight months. Then to my surprise, Alan Higby there followed-up. His response was encouraging although he seemed to get tripped-up on my neighbor situation and somehow missed the (judicial system) elephant in the room.
Here’s another one: Jon Caldera – who wrote a piece in October 2024 for Colorado Politics titled: Vote no on all judges to fix Colorado’s incestuous, unethical mess? He expresses pointed concern for Colorado’s methods of placing judges, so you’d think he jump at the chance to add my story to his assessment. Nope; never heard a word.
So how about the media and investigative reporters? I got nowhere; a fat zero or even below zero. Read about that exercise in futility here: Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
Could it be that people are just numb to governmental malfeasance? Sure seems so; just look at the freewheeling hubris at a national level; excuses, dodges, questionable pardons, troubling executive actions, idiotic command decisions – yet on we march toward the dustbin of history. We each have a choice; to ride the wave or do what is right. Where do you stand?
Faced with a judge without brain power to discriminate between fact and static dumped in his courtroom to color his impression of me, and a system that protects mediocrity, I know now that nothing will change unless we the people act.
Without much in the way of convincing sources to help improve Colorado’s broken judicial system, the best resource I can promise is to name suppliers of feathers and hot tar as soon as I can locate reliable vendors. Stand by.
